What is a MEMS optical switch?

 MEMS optical switch (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems Optical Switch) is an optical switch that utilizes MEMS technology to control the routing of optical signals in fiber-optic networks or other optical systems. MEMS combines micro-scale mechanical and electronic components, enabling small mechanical movements to switch optical paths.

Working Principle of MEMS Optical Switch

The core principle of a MEMS optical switch involves using tiny mechanical components (such as mirrors or micro-arms) to adjust the optical path. When a control voltage or current is applied to the MEMS structure, it causes small displacements or rotations, which in turn change the direction or path of the optical beam, effectively switching the optical route.
